Las Piñatas Returns to MACC for Día de los Muertos
AIA Austin’s Latinos in Architecture (LiA) is excited to showcase Las Piñatas Installation as part of the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center’s (MACC) Día de los Muertos celebration on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

This year’s installation brings together a collection of piñata-inspired sculptures and artwork created by local artists, architects, and designers who participated in Las Piñatas over the past three years.

The featured installations include Austin Alebrije Parade, Cartonería (Carnival Mask), First Gen Dreamer, and Los Alebrijes Piñata.

These pieces were originally showcased during the MACC’s Día de los Muertos celebrations at the Oswaldo A. B. Cantú Pan American Recreation Center, where the festivities took place while the MACC underwent renovations.

With the MACC reopening earlier this year, we’re excited to bring these creative works back to the cultural center, giving the community another opportunity to enjoy the installations and celebrate the artists who created them.

In addition to the artwork on display, LiA will bring traditional piñatas to give away to the community during the celebration.
