SUMMARY:AFA | Design Talks: Sterling E. Stevens in partnership with NOMA of Central Texas
DESCRIPTION:Sterling E. Stevens: “Am I using visual language through photographic medium to distill our built environment\, deconstruct design intent\, and demystify architectural vocabulary—or am I just taking pictures?” \nAbout the Talk: After years of studying and practicing architecture\, Sterling’s foray into photography quickly evolved from picture-taker\, to award-winning fine artist\, to leaving his first career behind to enter the photography field professionally. He’ll discuss how he honed daily observation into a singular visual voice\, finding delight in the ordinary as a photographic artist\, and integrating his philosophies about communicating design into architectural photography. \nPresented by the Austin Foundation for Architecture in partnership with National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) Central Texas. Design Talks showcases Austin’s talented designers from all fields. Doors open at 6:00pm and lecture begins at dusk. \nGET TICKETS\n\n \n\nIn 2009\, Sterling E. Stevens seamlessly transitioned from practicing architecture to become a professional photographer and award-winning fine artist.  His curiosity for photography emerged during his design studies in Texas and North Carolina.  A trained aesthetic sensibility\, acute empathy for his surroundings\, and unadulterated joy of the still image contributed to his passion for visually translating the built environment.  Based between San Antonio\, TX and Raleigh\, NC\, Stevens works throughout the southern United States\, collaborating with a diverse array of clients\, blending his artistic eye\, architectural knowledge and situational awareness into dynamic portraits of environmental design. \nThe mission of NOMA of Central Texas is to sustain the legacy of NOMA’S founding members by deepening the visibility\, support of\, and solidarity of under-represented people in the field of architecture and beyond. \n\n\nDesign Talks is presented by the Austin Foundation for Architecture in collaboration with a new design organization each month.
