SUMMARY:AIA Austin Advocacy Roundtable: Equity Based Preservation Plan
DESCRIPTION:The City’s new Equity-Based Preservation Plan aims to use the past to shape an equitable\, inclusive\, sustainable\, and economically vital future for all. The Equity-Based Preservation Plan will replace Austin’s 1981 historic preservation plan with an inclusive\, community-oriented process and outcome. Created by a community working group\, the draft plan is available for public review and feedback through May 31\, 2024. \nThe draft plan recommends preservation policies\, programs\, and tools aimed at making Austin more equitable\, inclusive\, and sustainable. It was developed by a community working group with 26 members from across Austin. The working group heard from many voices through a survey\, focus groups\, and more. In total\, more than 300 people helped create the draft. Bring your lunch and join City of Austin Planning Department Program Manager and AIA Austin Advocacy leaders\, and participate in the discussion. \nThis event is free and open to all with registration here.

SUMMARY:BEC: Austin Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join BEC: Austin for their monthly meeting featuring a presentation and lunch.\nThank you to the lunch sponsor\, Sika \nREGISTER\nSealing the Building Envelope–Principles\, Products & Practice\nEMSEAL operates at the center of a communication disconnect that often exists between the design\narchitect responsible for selecting joint sealants and the engineers calculating joint movement. When this\nconversation ignores the movement capability of the product that is expected to seal the joints\, failures\noften result. EMSEAL’s “Sealing Joints in the Building Envelope” seminar provides practical steps to\navoid this and other common mistakes that affect joint sealing. \nLearning Objectives \n\nAnalyze how watertight\, energy efficient\, fire-rated expansion joints are the consequence of a process in which we: Design\, Detail\, Specify\, Bid\, Erect\, Manufacture\, & Install in 3-D.\nBe familiar with product technologies and how to apply them.\nWhy it is critical to require certified performance reports in your specifications.\nKnow that your next building can be a watertight structure.\n\n1 LU/HSW \nPresented by:\nGlenn Leondike\, Regional Manager at Sika Expansion Joints Emseal/Watson Bowman Acme \n\nGlenn Leondike has accumulated over 13 years of valuable experience in the construction industry\, specializing in waterproofing solutions. Prior to his tenure at EMSEAL Joint Systems\, where he has excelled for over a decade\, Glenn served as a waterproofing estimator at Chamberlain Roofing and Waterproofing. His extensive background in both technical expertise and project management has contributed significantly to the success of various construction projects throughout his career. \nREGISTER\n\nBEC: Austin is an interdisciplinary organization that promotes the exchange of information on building enclosures and related science specific to the climate of Central Texas. \nInterdisciplinary: architects\, engineers\, contractors\, building owners\, consultants\, facility managers\, code officials\, educators\, manufacturers\, and those with a stake in building enclosure performance \nExchange of information: discussion\, training\, education\, outreach\, and awareness \nBuilding enclosures and related science: energy-efficiency\, moisture control\, indoor air quality\, longevity\, and durability \nBEC: Austin typically meets the first Wednesday of each month from 12-1pm.
