SUMMARY:BEC: Austin Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join BEC: Austin for their monthly meeting featuring a presentation and lunch.\nThank you to the lunch sponsor\, Sika \nREGISTER\nSealing the Building Envelope–Principles\, Products & Practice\nEMSEAL operates at the center of a communication disconnect that often exists between the design\narchitect responsible for selecting joint sealants and the engineers calculating joint movement. When this\nconversation ignores the movement capability of the product that is expected to seal the joints\, failures\noften result. EMSEAL’s “Sealing Joints in the Building Envelope” seminar provides practical steps to\navoid this and other common mistakes that affect joint sealing. \nLearning Objectives \n\nAnalyze how watertight\, energy efficient\, fire-rated expansion joints are the consequence of a process in which we: Design\, Detail\, Specify\, Bid\, Erect\, Manufacture\, & Install in 3-D.\nBe familiar with product technologies and how to apply them.\nWhy it is critical to require certified performance reports in your specifications.\nKnow that your next building can be a watertight structure.\n\n1 LU/HSW \nPresented by:\nGlenn Leondike\, Regional Manager at Sika Expansion Joints Emseal/Watson Bowman Acme \n\nGlenn Leondike has accumulated over 13 years of valuable experience in the construction industry\, specializing in waterproofing solutions. Prior to his tenure at EMSEAL Joint Systems\, where he has excelled for over a decade\, Glenn served as a waterproofing estimator at Chamberlain Roofing and Waterproofing. His extensive background in both technical expertise and project management has contributed significantly to the success of various construction projects throughout his career. \nREGISTER\n\nBEC: Austin is an interdisciplinary organization that promotes the exchange of information on building enclosures and related science specific to the climate of Central Texas. \nInterdisciplinary: architects\, engineers\, contractors\, building owners\, consultants\, facility managers\, code officials\, educators\, manufacturers\, and those with a stake in building enclosure performance \nExchange of information: discussion\, training\, education\, outreach\, and awareness \nBuilding enclosures and related science: energy-efficiency\, moisture control\, indoor air quality\, longevity\, and durability \nBEC: Austin typically meets the first Wednesday of each month from 12-1pm. To receive reminders\, please sign up for the BEC mailing list here.\n2024 BEC: Austin Committee\nChair: Keith Simon\, FAIA\nAIA Austin staff liaison: Julia Brown

SUMMARY:AIA Austin WiA Tour - Cedar Park Library
DESCRIPTION:As the first building to be constructed at the heart of the City’s mixed-use Bell District\, the new Cedar Park Public Library designed by Lake Flato Architects will be a premier civic destination and catalyst for activity in the developing district. The Library was designed to leverage the natural features of the site including preserving as many mature trees as possible\, orienting the building to capture summer breezes\, daylight and views\, and creating opportunities for outdoor programming. The design concept and use of a hybrid steel and mass timber roof structure revolves around the idea of the Library as the community’s porch – a welcoming place that celebrates and encourages community\, civic engagement\, and an appreciation for reading and learning. \nLearn more about the tour guides from the project team at Lake Flato. \nCE credit: 2 LU/HSW \nREGISTER\nThe address of the construction trailer where people should park and meet is 120 Commercial Parkway\, Cedar Park\, TX 78613. \nSafety is a very high priority for the GC and all visitors to the site are required to meet all of the PPE requirements of the job site (see below). We know some architects may be used to somewhat modified PPE requirements compared to workers on site\, but that is not the case for this project. PPE Required: \nLong pants and substantial closed toed shoes (sneakers\, hiking shoes\, boots – no heels\, no ballet flats\, no loafers) – anyone not complying with this requirement will not be able to walk the site. NO EXCEPTIONS.\n-Safety Vest\n-Hard Hat\n-Eye protection (safety glasses\, eye glasses\, sun glasses)\n-Gloves
