The Homes Tour committee commits to attending monthly meetings\, visiting the submitted houses during a weekend in May\, and working as what we call\, an “ambassador” during the Homes Tour\, October 24 and 25. Ambassadors work with a winning architect on the logistics of the Tour\, manage the docents\, make sure sponsors have a great experience\, and ensure attendees have a wonderful experience during the Tour. AIA \nPriding himself on his background of delivering large\, complex projects from the beginning of design through construction completion\, Scott Campbell’s background consists of numerous noteworthy large-scale Athletic Training Facilities\, as well as a strong foundation in mixed-use\, hospitality and retail developments. As a technical designer at Gensler\, Scott’s primary focus has been on developing Athletic Facilities for The University of Texas at Austin – accounting for over $250 million in completed projects across campus to date. You will collaborate in facilitated groups to imagine a memorable display rooted in Austin’s creative culture that reflects 100 years of community and inspires the next generation. SUMMARY:BEC: Austin Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join BEC: Austin for their monthly meeting featuring a presentation and lunch. \nREGISTER NOW \nPrefabricated Exterior Wall Assemblies: Herding Cats in Hard Hats \n \nPrefabrication of exterior wall assemblies has been explored since the 1920s and 1930s\, so the concept of their use is nothing new to the built environment. However\, consideration of the effects on the air\, water\, and thermal boundaries of buildings are the concerns of the construction industry for the 21st century. No matter if the wall assembly is constructed in the field or in a shop\, it must have continuity in their air\, water\, and thermal barriers. Prefabricated exterior wall assemblies are designed and constructed to meet these requirements. In this presentation\, our goal will be to introduce two perspectives on the use of prefabricated exterior wall assemblies. One is the General Contractor’s experience with prefabricated exterior wall assemblies and the delegated design process. The other is the experience of the building enclosure consultant reviewing the design and observing the fabrication and erection of these wall systems. Case studies will be reviewed with respect to code and/or industry association inspection requirements\, design and construction reviews\, and lessons learned in the coordination of these assemblies with other trades. \nLearning Objectives \n\nDescribe the history and different types of prefabricated exterior wall panels.\nContracting and coordinating the delegated design process with the applicable trade partners. Turn-Key\, Means & Methods\, and discuss who owns the details.\nApplicable codes and standards.
