The improvements add a total 75\,098 square feet to the terminal over four levels which will include baggage handling\, apron\, concourse and a new mezzanine level. The design will increase the functionality of the check in and baggage handling process that will help minimize wait times and reduce incidents of lost luggage. \nNew Features\n\nMore ticketing counters\nIncreased capacity for outbound baggage handling screening\nUp to eight additional security check point lanes at the new TSA Checkpoint\nPotential club space\nNew offices for the Department of Aviation\nEmployee quiet room with private spaces for nursing mothers\nUpgraded HVAC equipment to include new chillers\nTwo new elevators\n\nThe West Infill project will begin with the installation of the new baggage handling system\, followed by a second phase installing  the additional checkpoints providing flexible space as the airport continues to expand.  The project is slated for completion in 2026 and is targeting AEGB 3-Star accreditation for sustainable development. \nDuring this tour\, Adrienne Perlman\, Design Manager\, Tiffin Thompson\, Project Architect\, Giannis Nikas\, Technical Designer at Gensler and Dashka Dupiton\, Project Manager for Whiting-Turner will explain the design-build process and how we are collaborating with the City of Austin\, Department of Aviation and all stakeholders to create a true infill building that will help alleviate the needs of an over-crowded airport. SUMMARY:Design Austin | Design Minded: PlayTime
DESCRIPTION:GET TICKETS\nStaged on the Moody Rooftop at The Contemporary Austin\, we are excited to host a film screening of PlayTime (1967) by Jacque Tati. The film is a gloriously choreographed\, nearly wordless comedy about confusion in an age of high technology and the alienation of modern architecture. The most ambitious of Tati’s films\, PlayTime had its 70mm debut in Paris in 1967\, after nearly three years of bank-breaking production. With every inch of its superwide frame crammed with hilarity and inventiveness\, PlayTime is a lasting record of a modern era tiptoeing on the edge of oblivion. \n\nDesign Minded is an event series created by Design Austin in partnership with The Contemporary Austin. Showcasing the talented work of architects\, designers\, and artists in Austin and beyond\, we hope you’ll join us for inspiring film screenings and thought-provoking talks and meet other design-minded creatives.
