The improvements add a total 75\,098 square feet to the terminal over four levels which will include baggage handling\, apron\, concourse and a new mezzanine level. The design will increase the functionality of the check in and baggage handling process that will help minimize wait times and reduce incidents of lost luggage. \nNew Features\n\nMore ticketing counters\nIncreased capacity for outbound baggage handling screening\nUp to eight additional security check point lanes at the new TSA Checkpoint\nPotential club space\nNew offices for the Department of Aviation\nEmployee quiet room with private spaces for nursing mothers\nUpgraded HVAC equipment to include new chillers\nTwo new elevators\n\nThe West Infill project will begin with the installation of the new baggage handling system\, followed by a second phase installing  the additional checkpoints providing flexible space as the airport continues to expand.  The project is slated for completion in 2026 and is targeting AEGB 3-Star accreditation for sustainable development. \nDuring this tour\, Adrienne Perlman\, Design Manager\, Tiffin Thompson\, Project Architect\, Giannis Nikas\, Technical Designer at Gensler and Dashka Dupiton\, Project Manager for Whiting-Turner will explain the design-build process and how we are collaborating with the City of Austin\, Department of Aviation and all stakeholders to create a true infill building that will help alleviate the needs of an over-crowded airport. The design team will discuss the specific constraints of the site and what the outcome was in terms of the form of the building. How it interacts with the existing terminal and provides solutions to the airport’s specific needs described above. \nWiA Site Tour Sub-Committee Chair\n\nMichelle Weinfield\, PE\, AIA\nMichelle is an Architect with Studio8 Architects and thrilled to be the new WiA’s Site Tour Committee Chairwoman.
