With the push for lower embodied carbon structures\, the collaboration between owners and architects with the structural engineer is vital to getting to net zero. This presentation will explore advances the design profession is making toward net zero embodied carbon structures\, discuss the Structural Engineers 2050 Commitment Program (SE 2050)\, and highlight the latest embodied carbon legislation. The presentation will also review the top actions structural engineers can take to reduce the embodied carbon in their projects\, discuss how design teams can make wiser design choices to reduce emissions\, highlight construction best practices\, and explore the resources and tools available. Case study projects will be presented and the carbon cutting strategies employed will be highlighted. \n1 LU/HSW (pending) \nMegan Stringer\, SE\, LEED AP BD+C\nAssociate Principal\nHolmes \n \nMegan Stringer is an Associate Principal with Holmes and works out of their San Francisco office. Motivated by our impact on the built environment\, Megan is at the forefront of reducing structural embodied carbon. She champions Holmes’ commitment to SE 2050 and gets sustainable structures built at impressive scales. Megan has overseen the construction of North America’s largest mass timber building\, numerous low-carbon concrete pours\, and many life-cycle assessments. DESCRIPTION:QTOPIA: Deconstructing Boundaries\n\nThe first of a series of events titled QTOPIA\, we’re celebrating Pride Month by hosting a night of community and collective visioning of queer space. Join us for an interactive evening where we’ll deconstruct what queer space means through collage\, community\, and glitter. \nSpace is limited — please register via the link below. Complimentary drinks and canapes will be provided. \nThis first QTOPIA will culminate in the creation of a Zine — a collection of collages\, poetry\, and readings that will inform a broader understanding of the queer experience\, and lead to the creation of a design competition. \nWe’ll hear from preservationists\, queer designers\, and other professionals who will discuss the essence of queer space\, the Equity Based Preservation Plan\, the history of queer zines\, and the emotional topography of a community. \nTogether we’ll collage based on prompts regarding queer space and joy that will depict the spectrum of experience within the LGBTQIA+ community in our cities. \n\n\n\n\n REGISTER HERE\n\n
