SUMMARY:BEC: Austin Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join the BEC: Austin Committee for a presentation and two onsite demos\, plus lunch! Lunch sponsored by Detec Systems. \nElectronic Leak Detection for Roofing\, Waterproofing and the Building Envelope\nThis one hour course will cover Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) testing methods used for quality assurance of roofing and waterproofing membranes. Participants will learn about the principles outlined in the ASTM Standard Guide D7877 and ASTM Standard Practice D8231 and will be able to identify which assemblies are compatible with electronic testing and active monitoring. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Recognize the differences between the four electronic testing methods for roofing and waterproofing membranes.\n2. Understand the capabilities and limitations of electronic leak detection (ELD) as outlined in ASTM Guide D7877 & ASTM Practice D8231.\n3. Identify potential future design and construction failures based on analyzed data from real time construction monitoring.\n4. Distinguish different applications for fully monitored embedded leak detection systems and how they function. \n1 AIA LU|HSW / 1 IIBEC CEH \nREGISTER NOW \nPresented by:\nShaun Katz\, CSI\nProduct Line Manager\, Detec Systems \n \nShaun has over 20 years of experience in customer service and business administration. He has assisted contractors\, architects\, engineers and consultants\, manufacturers\, facility/property managers and building owners with forensic leak investigation\, as well as leak detection in new construction.  He has performed presentations and ELD demonstrations throughout the world\, and won the 2020 Presenter of the Year award from the Chicago Chapter of IIBEC.  His goal is to provide a basic understanding of Electronic Leak Detection and to assist all parties with ensuring valid and conclusive ELD.  He is an active member of CSI and IIBEC. \nLive demos by: \n\nKelly Mitchell\nPresident at KM Services LLC/Performance Testing\n\n \nKelly founded KMS Performance Testing in 2020 and has nearly 20 years experience testing and evaluating building enclosure systems for new and existing commercial\, institutional\, and healthcare facilities.  Using state-of the-art testing and inspection equipment\, KMS has extensive experience performing the test protocols of the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) for building owners\, contractors and architects throughout the State of Texas and beyond. \n  \n\nJohn Posenecker\, P.E.\nSenior Principal Department Manager at Terracon \n \nMr. Posenecker joined Terracon in March of 2015. He is a registered engineer in the State of Texas and Oklahoma and is a Waterproofing Subject Matter Expert. His experience includes the design\, construction\, testing and forensic investigation of building envelope systems. Mr. Posenecker specializes in waterproofing and cladding systems associated with the building envelope. He is an active member in several professional organizations including the Building Enclosure Council (BEC) and Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA). \nREGISTER NOW \n\nBEC: Austin is an interdisciplinary organization that promotes the exchange of information on building enclosures and related science specific to the climate of Central Texas. \nInterdisciplinary: architects\, engineers\, contractors\, building owners\, consultants\, facility managers\, code officials\, educators\, manufacturers\, and those with a stake in building enclosure performance \nExchange of information: discussion\, training\, education\, outreach\, and awareness \nBuilding enclosures and related science: energy-efficiency\, moisture control\, indoor air quality\, longevity\, and durability \nBEC: Austin typically meets the first Wednesday of each month from 12-1pm. To receive reminders\, please sign up for the BEC mailing list here.\n2023 BEC: Austin Committee\nChair: Keith Simon\, FAIA\nAIA Austin staff liaison: Julia Brown
