DESCRIPTION:The Housing Advocacy Committee intends to promote affordable housing for all Austinites. We track code\, policies\, and discriminatory housing practices. The intention of this group is to be proactive\, not reactive on housing policy\, and we look for organizations to partner with on issues as we leverage our own expertise as design professionals and leaders of the community. \nThis committee’s monthly meetings are second Fridays\, 12-1PM. DESCRIPTION:Join the Commercial Architecture Committee for their monthly meeting: Tour of Medical Parkway\, 1970s Office Reimagined. \nAbout the Tour: \nThis is a renovation of a 1971 building into a multi-tenant creative office that prioritizes wellness and sets a precedent for greenscapes in urban areas. By replacing limestone\, turrets and front parking with high performance thermo-spruce cladding\, skylights\, windows\, an elevator with glass walkway and ‘front yard’ the re-imagined building is all about experience and accessibility. \nReusing the slab\, wall and roof frame\, ensured time and money was saved through a site plan exemption. Once the limestone turrets at three points of the triangle footprint were removed those points were fully utilized on both floors with a large conference room with 12ft window walls. By reprogramming the front of the building away from parking and adding in an accessible front yard amenity the user experience was improved and precedence was set on the street by offering greenery. \nJed Duhon\, AIA\, Principal/Team Leader\n  \nMark Odom\, AIA\, Partner/Austin Office Director
