SUMMARY:Austin Light Rail: An Innovative and Integrated Approach to City Building
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, October 31\, AIA Austin’s Urban Design Committee will host a luncheon and panel presentation on Austin Light Rail\, highlighting the innovative design and project delivery process that Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) is employing to create a human-centered and performance-based light rail system. \nGET TICKETS HERE>> \nATP leaders and panelists – Peter Mullan\, Executive Vice-President for Architecture & Urban Design\, Lindsay Wood\, Executive Vice-President of Engineering & Construction and Lisa Storer\, Director of Architecture\, Urban Design & Sustainability – will present and discuss the integrated design and project delivery approach to create an innovative\, Austin-centric light rail system\, with the City of Austin and CapMetro as key partners. Meg Merritt\, Principal and Founder of Movitas Mobility\, will moderate the panel\, bringing a national perspective to this once-in-a-generation\, city-building project. She is a lecturer at UT’s School of Architecture\, where she teaches about managing major projects that bring transit and emerging mobility to communities. \nThe panel will highlight how ATP is leveraging this multi-billion dollar mobility investment to enhance communities\, protect the natural environment and design for both climate and system resiliency – while integrating and expressing these through thoughtfully-designed public spaces. \nThe discussion will showcase how planners\, engineers\, architects and landscape architects can and should collaborate early-on in such complex projects to achieve more holistic and higher-performing designs.
