Old Red River Street & More!
Urban design is all about shaping great public spaces for a better human experience. Sometimes this happens in the right-of-way and when you are lucky, you get to repurpose old streets into new outdoor places to enhance adjacent uses, create better connectivity, and provide a gathering place for people to be together.
Please join us Wednesday, Sept 24th at Noon for our Urban Design Committee meeting. We will dive into the Old Red River Street placemaking project – an incredible opportunity to reuse public right-of-way between 12th and 15th Streets to enhance functions at Waterloo Park and connect to the UT campus. Projects like these don’t happen without great planning, advocacy, and appropriate funding for implementation. Come learn about the current plans and how to get involved. RSVP HERE>>
We have an exciting panel joining us for this discussion, including:
Anne Milne, City of Austin Project Lead
Veronica Castro de Barrera, AIA, University of Texas Lead Campus & Mobility Planner
Jana McCann, FAIA, and Ted Siff, Austin Outside
We will learn how Red River Street has been realigned back to its historic alignment after two separate changes made with the University of Texas to support its mission and needs over time. As UT’s Campus Master Plan evolves and is implemented, we will continue to see UT’s investment near Old Red River Street.
We will also learn how Austin Outside values public places and connection to nature. And, why they believe that greater access to vibrant, robust, community-wide network of parks, trails, bike lanes, sidewalks, open spaces and protected areas is essential to the social, mental, physical, ecological, and economic health of greater Austin.
This meeting will be in-person at the AIA Austin office at 801 W 12th Street. Lunch will be provided. A virtual option will also be available.
All are welcome to the Urban Design Committee meetings. Information provided to our mailing list. Sign up for our mailing list here!
