Please join us for our November meeting! This month, we’ll be discussing our Active Priority Issues:
- Brackenridge Tract – this is a new one. The city is putting together a deal with UT and is looking to pass it next council meeting. It’s rushed and includes ‘saving’ 141 acres of golf course while redeveloping ~150 acres along the Colorado.
- Missing Middle and Mixed Use Zoning – The city’s Planning Department held a testing session with us where we got to test out the new MX zones. We are in our ‘homework’ phase and should be convening soon to discuss.
- Houseplex (4 Units in IRC) – The city’s IRC expansion Speak Up page is live and hosts the first draft of our Houseplex provision. They are presenting the code on Nov. 12th.
- Dog’s Head – We’ll be sending out invites soon for our Dec – Feb workgroup.
- Green Social Housing – we’ve been invited to provide comments and need to establish a working group. Contact chris@shamsgannon.com if you’re interested in participating.
- City-wide Density Bonus
- Setback Reform
- Looking at State Bills for next session
The Housing Advocacy Committee intends to promote affordable housing for all Austinites. We track code, policies, and discriminatory housing practices. The intention of this group is to be proactive, not reactive on housing policy, and we look for organizations to partner with on issues as we leverage our own expertise as design professionals and leaders of the community.
This committee’s monthly meetings are second Fridays, 12-1PM. Meetings are hybrid – attend in-person at AIA Austin or via Zoom. Join our email list to learn about upcoming events.
